Someone try this and let me know if it works:
Ch 4. Join to form loop.
Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc into loop. (Ch 2, 3 dc into loop) repeat twice more. Ch 2, join with slip stitch into top of ch 3. (3 dc on each side for a total of 12 dc, 4 corner ch 2 spaces)
Round 2: Ch 3, do into next stitch, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 2 space. *dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch 2 space*. Repeat * to * twice. 1 dc in dc. Join with slip stitch into top of ch. 3.
Repeat round 2 three more times, ending with 17 dc on each of the four sides and 4 ch 2 corner spaces.
This is all done in white in the picture. I'll work on the butterfly, but don't hold your breath. I would like to know if this square worked though. I would try it but I can't type and crochet at the same time.
Butterfly. In white ch 3. Join.
Ch 7 (first four sts create 1st tc, last 3 chs are counted as chains).
4 tc into loop, ch 3 (repeat twice)
1 tc into loop. Join
Slip st into chains until you get to first ch 3 space.
5 tc, ch 10, 4 tc into ch 3 space, ch 1 (upper left wing)
4 tc, ch 7, 4 tc into next ch 3 space, ch 1 (twice) (lower parts of wings)
4 tc, ch 10, 4 tc into ch 3 space (upper right of wing), ch 4, join with sl st into ch 3 sp.
Break off white.
thank you Kathy for the pattern !!!
