Abbreviations
ss = slip stitch
sp/s = space/s
st/s = stitch/es
ch = chain
st ch = starting chain
dc = double crochet
dc2tog = begin a dc in 2 consecutive sts up to the yo, then yo and pull through all loops on hook
htr = half treble crochet
tr = treble crochet
tr6tog = begin 6 tr in 6 consecutive sts up to before the last yo, finishing with a yo and pull through all loops on hookhdtr = half double treble crochet
dtr = double treble crochet
blo =back loop only
I used a 5mm hook and 8 ply cotton yarn to make 6" blocks. I do tend to crochet tighter than most though, so use what you normally would with your yarn of choice.
Instructions
Using flower centre colour, begin with 4 ch, joining first ch to the last with a ss to form a loop, or a use a magic circle.
Round 1 - ch 2(st ch), 11 htr, join with ss to 2nd ch of st ch. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.{12 sts}
Round 2 - Attach petal colour to any st, ch 3 (st ch), *6 tr in next st**, tr in next st*, repeat from * to * 4 times and from * to ** once, join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch. (Don't be concerned about the ruffled look.) {42 sts}
Round 3 - ch 3 (st ch), *ch 3, tr6tog, ch 3**, tr in next st*, repeat from * to * 4 times and from * to ** once, join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. {6 petals, 6 single sts & 12 x 3 ch sps}Round 4 - Attach leaf colour to the middle of any 3 ch sp, ch 1, 2 dc in same 3 ch sp, *skip 1 st, 3 dc in 3 ch sp*, repeat from * to * 10 times, skip 1 st, dc in same sp as first sts, join with ss to first dc. {36 sts}
Round 5 - ch 3 (st ch), 5 tr in same st as ss, *skip 2 sts, 6 tr in next st*, repeat from * to * 10 times, skip 2 sts, join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. {12 x leaves}
Round 6 - Attach border colour between any 2 6 tr groups, ch 3 (st ch), *ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc2tog in blo of next 2 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts**, tr between last and next st*, repeat from * to * 10 times and from * to ** once, join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch. {24 sts & 24 x 2 ch sps}
Round 7 - ch 4 (st ch), *(dtr, hdtr) in 2 ch sp, hdtr in next st, 2 tr in 2 ch sp, htr in next st, (htr, dc) in 2 ch sp, dc in next st, (dc, htr) in 2 ch sp, htr in next st, 2 tr in 2 ch sp, hdtr in next st, (hdtr, dtr) in 2 ch sp**, (dtr, ch 2, dtr) in next st*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, dtr in same sp as first st, ch 1, join with dc to 4th ch of st ch. {19 sts along each side, 4 x 2 ch corner sps}Round 8 - ch 1, 2 dc over joining dc, *dc in next 19 sts**, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, 2 dc in same sp as first st, ch 2, join with ss to first dc.
