Crochet The Lovers Knot

Gather your supplies.Begin with a slip knot. Chain (ch) 2.
Make 1 single crochet (sc) in farthest ch from hook.Pull up a long loop, about 1/2" to 1" (1.3 - 2.5 cm) in length.
Yarn over (yo), pull through long loop on hook (1 long ch made).Hold long ch firmly by the base, insert hook in the bottom loop of the ch (the loop to the left of your hook).
Pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).YO, pull through both loops on hook (1 sc made into bottom loop).
Repeat steps 3 - 7 eleven more times to make a beginning ch of 12 knots. One complete stitch = 4 knots, or long chs. To make the first stitch, insert the hook in the sc after the 4th long ch (4 long chs in 1st st).
Pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).yo, pull through both loops (1 sc made, creating 1st love knot [LK] in row).
Repeat steps 3-7 twice (2 long chs).Skip 1 sc (or 2 long chs), insert hook in the next sc.
Pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through both loops on hook (1 sc made, 2nd LK in row complete).Repeat steps 12-14 (2 long chs, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next st) again for the next LK. Notice how the 2 skipped long chs combined with the 2 long chs just made make a square of 4 long chs.
Repeat steps 12-14 two more times to complete the row (5 LK in beginning [beg] row).Repeat steps 12-14 two more times to complete the row (5 LK in beginning [beg] row).
For the LK mesh pattern, the first and last knot of this second row must be a half-knot of 3 long chs. Only skip the 1st long ch, make 1 sc in the first available sc. Count to make sure you only have 3 long chs in your beg knot.Repeat steps 3-7 twice (2 long chs made).
Skip first available sc, make a sc in the next available sc. This makes the first whole knot of the second row.Repeat the previous 2 steps to make 2 more whole knots in the row. You should now have the beg half-knot and 4 whole knots in this row.
You're not done yet! You will need to make another half-knot to end this row. Pull up a long loop, yo, pull through loop on hook.Skip only the next long ch. Insert the hook in the sc immediately after this long ch.
Pull up a loop to the height of the top of the row.Yo, pull through both loops on hook (1 long sc made).
Slip stitch (sl st) in the bottom loop of the long sc.For odd numbered rows, work all sts as for steps 3 - 16, for a row of whole knots.
For even numbered rows, work alll sts as for steps 17 - 26, for a row beginning and ending with half-knots.To tell the difference between odd and even rows, complete 2 long chs for your turning chs, then turn your work to analyze the first st. If there is a "V" shape (sc) immediately after turning, this is an odd row. You will need to begin and end with a whole knot.
If, after turning, there is a flat space (top of whole knot), this is an even row, and you will need to begin and end with a half-knot.To adjust your pattern, remember each full knot in the beg ch needs 2 long chs, plus 4 for the beg knot. Do not count the beg knot in row, make 2 long chs for each knot you desire in the row. Add 4 more long chs for your beg knot.
