Kitty Bed

SKILL LEVEL:  Easy (Level 2)

SIZE: One Size

Finished Circumference About 45 in. (114.5 cm)
Finished Height About 5 1/2 in. (14 cm)

GAUGE:

12 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Two-Color Slip st pattern.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Bed is worked in one piece in rnds from Sides down to Base.
2. You will begin work with the longer circular needle. As sts are decreased the circle of fabric becomes smaller so you'll change to working on the shorter circular needle and on double pointed needles.
3. The side of the Bed is worked in stripes and a Two-Color Slip st pattern, then folded to the inside. A strip of plastic canvas is slipped under the fold to make the sides of the Bed extra sturdy.
4. A Removable Liner is worked separately in the round.
5. We used smaller needles and a tighter gauge than usual for this yarn to create a sturdy Bed.
6. Always slip sts as if to purl.
7. With yarn in back (wyib) refers to the side of the work that is away from you as you work the row. To move yarn from front to back, bring yarn between needle tips. Take care not to wrap yarn over a needle, this could create an additional st.
8. When changing yarn color, do not cut the unused yarn color, just carry it up the WS of your piece.
9. Use any leftover yarn to make a cat toy! Just knit a simple rectangle, fold in half and sew the 3 open sides closed, adding a bit of catnip before you finish sewing. Use leftover yarn colors as desired, or follow the stripe or Two-Color Slip st pattern if your kitty prefers coordinating toys. To work Two-Color Slip st worked in rows (worked over an odd number of sts)
