hat

Designed by Teresa Chorzepa.

SKILL LEVEL:  Easy (Level 2)

SIZE: One Size
Finished Circumference About 19 in. (48.5 cm), will stretch to fit a range of sizes.
Finished Height About 9 in. (23 cm)
NOTES:
1. Hat is worked in one piece in joined and TURNED rounds. To turn when working in the round, simply turn your work, just as when working back and forth in rows

GAUGE:
1 pattern rep + 8 rnds = about 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm). Note: One pattern rep consists of (ch 2, 3 hdc, sc, ch 2) and the 6 following hdc.
When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:
hdc2tog (hdc 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:
1. Hat is worked in the rnd one piece in joined and TURNED rounds. To turn when working in the round, simply turn your work, just as when working back and forth in rows.
2. Top knot is made separately, then sewn to Hat.
3. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 61, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; join with sl st in first sc – you will have 60 sc. Use beg tail to sew gap at base of first row closed. Proceed to Rnd 2.
